Food for the Way We Gather Now
Our food has changed. Our hospitality hasn't.
Irish kitchens have changed enormously.
We still love butter, potatoes, brown bread, beef, lamb, apples, seafood and farmhouse cheese.
But our kitchens also contain chilli, tahini, harissa, pasta, feta, burrata, chorizo, olive oil and influences gathered from travelling, restaurants and the people who now call Ireland home.
That doesn't make our food less Irish. It makes it more interesting.
Contemporary Irish cooking is about taking excellent ingredients and cooking them for the lives we actually lead now.

Your seat at the table awaits
A community for people who care about flavour, place and good company. We gather around intimate suppers, guided tastings and food walks — celebrating the producers, kitchens and tables that make Irish food worth sharing.

Meet the founder
Sarah-Jane McGrath
Founder & Editor, Ireland's Table
Sarah-Jane McGrath founded The Food & Drink Society Ireland to bring people together around the things that matter most: honest ingredients, a well-poured glass, and the kind of conversation that only happens when the table is set and the room is full.
Through Ireland's Table, she writes and curates recipes, wine pairings and stories rooted in how we gather now — contemporary Irish cooking that respects tradition without being ruled by it.
“I want flour on the pages. Wine marks in the margins. A cookbook that becomes part of a kitchen.”
Why Ireland's Table?
Begins with the occasion
People rarely decide what to cook by thinking "I need something from the meat chapter." Instead we ask: what can I cook tonight, what can I make when friends are coming, what should I serve for brunch, what will work for Sunday lunch, can I feed six people beautifully without spending a fortune. Ireland's Table begins with the occasion rather than the ingredient.

This blog is also the beginning of something bigger. Over the coming months the recipes, ideas, wine pairings and stories published here will help shape the future cookbook.
The aim is not to produce a cookbook that sits untouched on a coffee table. I want flour on the pages. Wine marks in the margins. Corners folded over. And somebody eventually writing: "Double this next time."
Because that is when a cookbook becomes part of a kitchen.
